John 3:18

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:
The world doesn't really know what sin is. They think sin is lying,
stealing, murder, adultery, arson, rape. No, those are sins. Do you know
what sin is? Sin is the rejection of Jesus Christ that will damn a soul to
hell. You don't go to hell because you steal, lie, kill, or fornicate.

I hear people say, "Sure, I lie every now and again, but God isn't going to
send me to hell for that. I might fry a few years in purgatory, but to die
in hell for lying doesn't make sense."

When a man talks that way, he doesn't understand sin.

Sin is high treason against a holy God. Sin is a clenched fist in the face
of God. Sin says to God, "I will not bow to You. I will not serve You. I
will not trust You." That is sin.

ACTION POINT:
The great commandment is to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind.
The great sin is not to do it.<div He once gave himself a birthday party at the exclusive Berkshire Hotel in New York, flew his friends to it from Europe on the Concorde supersonic jet, the party went on for days and was attended by scores of celebrities. Yet with all the trappings of fame and fortune he made this statement.."YOU CAN HAVE EVERTHING IN THE WORLD and still be the loneliest man, I've had lots of lovers, I tried relationships on either side, male and female, but all of them have gone wrong. God’s people had abandoned loyalty to Him and were on the verge of being completely carried away into captivity due to their sins (Jeremiah 25:8-14; Deuteronomy 28:63-64). Through the prophet Jeremiah, Jehovah begged His people to return to Him but they would not (Jeremiah 4:3-4; Jeremiah 6:16). He gave them plenty of time to repent before sending the armies of Nebuchadnezzar for destruction, yet they refused to heed (Jeremiah 5:21). Those of Judah had the privilege of serving the Almighty God but they chose rather to live below their privileges. Jeremiah, the weeping prophet cried out, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved” (Jeremiah 8:20). Then, he asked a haunting question, “Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people” (Jeremiah 8:22).

Jeremiah’s point was simply this: To be sin sick before Jehovah made no sense at all. The opportunity to repent was there and to ignore it was the same as a diseased man refusing balm in Gilead, a territory known for its medicinal remedies. We marvel that Judah would live below her privileges and that she did not take advantage of the opportunities she had. However, do not many do the same today? Let us consider the following thoughts:

1) There is saving power in the gospel (Mark 2:17; 1 Timothy 1:15; 1 John 2:2). However, many refuse to obey the gospel and find healing for their sin sick souls (Romans 10:16; cf. Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; Acts 17:30; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 10:17).

2) There is enabling power in the gospel (1 Corinthians 1:18; cf. Acts 20:32; Romans 1:16; James 1:21,22; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). Despite this truth, there are those who are spiritually weak and powerless because they do not avail themselves of the word of God (2 Timothy 2:15; Matthew 4:4; 1 Peter 2:2).

3) There is focusing power in the gospel (Matthew 5:16; Matthew 6:33; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Philippians 1:21; Philippians 3:13-14). The gospel provides purpose for living, yet many live purposeless lives. The Christian is to glorify God in all that he does as he seeks to put the Kingdom absolutely first (Matthew 6:33). This mindset, motivated by the gospel, helps a man to carry out his true reason for living (Isaiah 43:7; Ecclesiastes 12:13).

4) There is fulfilling power in the gospel (John 10:10; Philippians 4:4-9; I Thessalonians 5:16). Christian living is abundant, joyous living. Yet many are unhappy and unfulfilled. Why is this? Because they have chosen to live beneath the privileges of the gospel.

Conclusion

Judah had every opportunity to be blessed by God (Deuteronomy 28:1-2), yet they chose the underprivileged path. When we choose not to serve the Lord with all of our “heart, soul, mind and strength” (Mark 12:30-31), we too choose to live beneath our privileges. Therefore, let us choose the path of spiritual riches found in Christ, where there is salvation, strength, purpose and happiness. “Is there no balm in Gilead, Is there no physician there?” (Jeremiah 8:22) To ask the question, is to answer the question.

Wednesday Evening service

The Wednesday evening service is now online for listening/downloading.

http://www.mediafire.com/?o3sad42fosclk1y

Thought for Today

Just Checking In

A minister passing thru his church in the middle of the day, decided to pause by the alter and see who had come to pray. Just then the back door opened and a man came down the aisle. The minister frowned as he saw the man hadn't shaved in awhile, his shirt was shabby and his coat was worn and frayed. The man knelt, bowed his head a few moments the rose and walked away.
Each day at noon in the days that followed the man repeated this routine without fail. One day the minister noticing the man carried a lunch pail stopped him asking "why do you come here each day?" The man replied he worked at a factory down the road and used his lunch break to pray. As the minister listened the man prayed "I just came again to tell you, Lord, how happy I've been, since we found each others friendship and you took away my sin. Don't know much of how to pray, but I think about you everyday. So Jesus this is Jim checking in today." Feeling guilty the minister told the man he was welcome to the church any time. One day the minister noticed the man had not been to pray for a while, asking at the factory he found out Jim was very ill and was in the hospital. Visiting Jim there the nurses said he had no visitors, flowers or calls from friends. Yet his smiles and kind words brought joy to the staff. The minister asked him how he could be filled with joy when he was seriously ill and no friends to call. The man replied, "the nurses are wrong, someone is here all the while. Everyday at noon He's here, a dear friend, He sits right down, takes my hand, leans over and says to me; I just came again to tell you, Jim How happy I have been , since we found this friendship, and I took away you sin, always love to hear your prayer in which you say; I think about you every day, so Jim this is Jesus checking in today."

Thought for today

Beware that thou not forget the Lord thy God in not keeping His commandments, and his judgements, and His statutes, which I command thee this day.

Deuteronomy 8:11

God's word tells us very plainly that we are not to forget or ignore His commandants. These lumps have to be worked out by the potter's hand and this process takes time. The more lumps the potter leaves, the less valuable the pot and the greater the odds of the pot cracking, or even blowing up when it is fired in the furance. Which turns soft clay in a strong useful pot. As followers of Christ we need to be aware that as we go thru the trails and tribulations of life God is forming us into a strong and useful vessel for His purpose.

Thought for Today

Years ago, some men were on a leaky old ship in the middle of a rough and stormy sea. One of them asked the captain, "Are we safe?" He said, "Well, the boilers are weak and may explode at any moment. The ship is taking on water. To be very honest with you, we may go up, or we may go down, but at any rate, we are going on." As followers of Christ we are not immune to the storms of life and need to hold to the promises of God that He will never leave us or forsake us.

Hosea 6:3 - "Then shall we Jesus does however condemn those that attempt to feed their soul with material possessions. Jesus talked about a rich man having a hard time entering into the kingdom of heaven and goes on to state that it is the love of money that is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Timothy 6:10).
The Bible refers to prayer about five hundred times, to faith less than five hundred times and to material possessions more than one thousand times. Money was God's first, the man who refuses to recognize this in the use and possession of money taints his own soul with selfishness, covetousnesss, dishonesty and even the blood of others. The following Bible verses are just a few of God's commandments concering the stewardship of what God has blessed us with.

The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all. (Proverbs 22:2)

Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness (Proverbs 11:4)

Labor not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. (Proverbs 23:4

And He said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. (Luke 12:15)

God commands that Christians put Him first in every aspect of their lives and makes this promise of provision that every need we have will be met thru Him.

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)

Many times the accumulation of wealth in this world brings heartache and troubles but God promises His blessing come without these consequences.

The blessing of the Lord, maketh rich and He addeth no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22

Wednesday Evening Service

the Locust Grove Baptist Church service for Wednesday December 1, 2010 is now online, click on this link to listen/download.

http://www.mediafire.com/?z8qdckll2t88lbq

Wednesday Evening Service

The Wednesday evening service for 11/03/10, I Cor-CH. 9 is now online.

http://www.mediafire.com/?ijv828kjd3nynxr

Thought for Today

Inclining Our Ears to Hear

Several years ago, the investment firm of E. It means being able to pray to a caring and compassionate Father who always has time to listen and nevers fails to understand the fears, dissapointments and griefs of life. Having God in your life means having the assurance that nothing can ever come your way that you and He, united together, cannot deal with and ultimately overcome. Even though tears, hurts, and painful times have come and undoubtedly will continue to come, and you can know that He has His hand in everything, and things will always work out for your good. It means that you can be assured, with no uncertainty, that you will be given the strength to endure anything that happens to you, and you will become a better person.
Even though all these blessings are cruical to our day-to-day existence on this earth, they are small compared to the promise of spending an eternight in His presence.
Therefore, what it means to have God in your life is knowing the blessed hope of tomorrow and the glorious promise of heaven that he has prepared for us!

Thought for Today

He is able;

He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, acccording to the power that works in us.

Ephesians 3:20

He is able to aid those who are tempted.

Hebrews 2:18

He is able to save to the uttermost.

Hewbrews 7:25

He is able to keep you from stumbling.

Jude 24

He is able to establish you.

Romans 16:25

He is able to keep what I have committed to Him.

2 Timothy 1:12

Commit your day to the Lord. The computers issued an error message that exactly 24 hours were missing. the reason for this missing time could not be found until a Christian employee remembered the Bible spoke of the time God made time to stand still for "about a day" (joshua 10:12-13). But this only accounted for 23 hours and 20 minutes, then someone mentioned the Bible also stated that God reversed time 10 degrees(2 Kings 20:9-11) which equals 40 minutes. The mystery of the missing 24 hours was solved.

John 17:17 Thy word is true

God is the creator of the universe and in complete control, we can take all our cares to God in complete confidence that He can and will answer in a mighty way.

Thought for Today

Difficult Days

As Christians we are not immune to life's daily trials and problems. As a result the girl was permanently blinded.
Towards the end of her life a friend asked did she ever feel bitterness towards the doctor, she replied "No, you see it may have been a mistake on the doctors part, but not in God's. She stated God was in perfect control of all things in heaven and on earth. She grew up, married and had one child that died in infancy, but told people to never pity her because she considered herself one of the luckiest people alive. This woman of remarkable faith was Fanny Crosby, you may not recognize the name but she wrote some eight thousand hymns in her life including "Blessed Assurance and "Eye Hath not Seen." She taught at the New York School for the Blind and used the income from her songwriting spreading the gospel and helping the poor.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. It can become a daily habit that will change the reader's life. God's word holds the promise of rich benefits for those who spend time in reading it and being obedient to God. The following seven verses all come from Psalm 119.

1. The Bible will keep you from sin-"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might
not sin against thee." (verse 11)

2. The Bible will lift your burdens-"My soul melteth for heavinesss; strengthen thou
me according to thy word" (verse 28)

3. The Bible will guide your steps.-"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." (verse 105)

4. The Bible will bring you joy.-"Thy testimonies have I taken as an heritage for
ever: for they are the rejoicing of my heart" (verse 111)

5. The Bible will lead you to wisdom.-"The entrance of thy words giveth light; it
giveth understanding unto the simple" (verse 130)

6. The Bible will give you peace-"Great peace have they which love thy law: and
nothing shall offend them" (verse 165)

7. The Bible will bring you back to God-"I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek
thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments" (verse 176)

Thought for today

These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus and with his brethern.

Acts 1:14

The definition of the word accord is "to conform or be in complete argeement" and is derived from the Greek word symphony. The farmer immeadiately pulled the boy to safety, the next day a carriage arrived to the farmers' sparce home and a nobleman stepped out and informed the farmer the boy he had saved was his son. His offer of repayment to the farmer was refused, the farmer stating he could in no way accept any type payment for helping someone. The nobleman seeing the farmer had a son about the same age as his own then offered to give him the same education as his own son was to receive. The farmer's son went on to graduate from the prestigious St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, England. The farmer's son now known as Sir Alexander Fleming went on to develop penicillin, years later the nobleman's son developed pneomonia. type='text'>Thought for Today

The Second Mile

As we go through life, somebody will hurt us by doing us wrong. There are four attitudes we may take in response.

1. If they hurt me, I will hurt them more- this is vindictiveness.

2. If they hurt me, I will treat them the same-this is retribution, the old law of
"an eye for an eye."

3. If they hurt me, I will ignore them and have nothing to do with them-this is
distain.

4. If they hurt me, I will love and serve them-this is God's way.

A man moved into a new house, a few days later his neighbor phoned and angrily
told him his driveway extended two feet over the property line into his yard. He
also demanded a surveyor be employed to determine exactly where the property lines
were. The man told his neighbor "we do not need a surveyor, you go out and stake
out where the line should be and I will accept your judgement." Several days went
by without a word from his neighbor nor did he stake out the property line. When
he did see his neighbor he told him to "not worry about it there was room enough
for both of them and two feet would not make much difference anyway. In going the
second mile he not only averted what could have become an ongoing feud but gained
the man's friendship.

You have heard it hath been said, an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth;but I
say unto you, that ye resist not evil. But whosoever shall smite thee on thy right
cheek, turn him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take
away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. This practice is nothing new, the Greeks went to Delphi to consult the oracle (self-proclaimed prophet). The Romans seeked signs in the entrails (internal organs) of slaughtered pigs, the people of the middle east consulted mediums (one who claims contact with the spirit of the dead)and in ancient Babylon illict drug use was combined with astrology to discern the future. God's word clearly warns of the dangers of occultic practices.

Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:31

All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers that make predictions month by month let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up; they cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Isiah 47:13

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, of an enchanter, or a witch. Compared to non-church goers whose average life span is 75 years of age. Worship of God is physically beneficial to us and increases a person's mental state of well being. When Lazarus fell sick his family sent for Jesus. Instead of coming immediately He waited (John 11:1-46). He did not come until Lazarus had died, then He said "I am glad" (John 11:15), for Jesus had something good in mind. God waited four thousand years to send a savior as He had promised. But in God's fullness of time Jesus was born, offering Himself up for our sins and becoming our Lord and Savior. It's doctrine is holy, its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise, believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy.
It contains light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer you. It is the traveler's map, the pilgrims staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword, and the Christian's charter.
Here Paradise is restored, heaven opened, and the ways of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object, our good its design, and the redemption of man its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, a river of pleasure.
It is given to you in life, will be open in the judgement, and will be remembered forever. It involves the highest responsibilites, will reward the greatest labor, and condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Author unknown

How precious also are they thoughts unto me, O God!-PSALM 139:17

Thought for Today

A ship in the harbor is safe...but that is not what ships are for.

John A.
